Hello, and first off, let me welcome you to the Brotherhood. This is a great place for people who have a passion for storytelling and whom possess slightly over active imaginations can gather together to express themselves and create interesting stories. The reason that this character guide is the way it is, is because over the year long existence of the sight the quality of submissions and writers has dropped dramatically to the point where I think it flat lined the sight. It seemed that no one really knows how to write a character sheet so I’ve taken it upon myself to explain exactly what every aspect of the character creation process entails. Please don’t take it as an insult if I ask you to read it, but just take it is a, well really, a helpful tip, to improve your enjoyment and the enjoyment of others on this forum.
Anyway, let us not delay
RULES AND GUIDELINES EVERYONE MUST FOLLOW
-AN ASSASSIN CAN NOT BE UNDER THE AGE OF 17
- ALL CHARACTERS WEAR BLACK MONASTERY ROBES WHILE ON MONASTERY SITE.
- NO MARY SUES (No perfect character)
- IF YOU WISH FOR YOUR CHARACTER TO BE A SENIOR ASSASSIN YOU MUST SUBMIT YOUR CHARACTER SHEET VIA PM TO AN ADMIN FOR APPROVAL! THIS WILL BE DONE ONLY ON RARE OCCASION AND GRANTED TO THOSE WHO SHOW TRUE PROMISE IN RPING!
- ALL ASSASSINS MUST HAVE TWO NAMES, ASSASSIN NAME AND ACTUAL NAME
- ASK PERMISSION FROM A CREATOR IF YOU WANT THEIR CHARACTER TO HAVE A RELATIONSHIP (NOT NECESSARILY ROMANTIC) WITH AN ANOTHER MEMBER’S CHARACTER
-BE REALISTIC ABOUT TIME PERIOD AND SETTING
Name: Name is tricky thing, because people either under rate it, or over rate it. People often spend forever trying to think of a name, or others just choose one randomly out of a hat, but you have to think logically about it. It’s simply the fact that these kids don’t get to pick their names so for a brief second you have to think in their parent’s position, or think about who bestowed the name upon them. Does their name not fit them at all? Do they hate there name? Or is it the only memory of their family they have left? A Name Has Power. Someone’s personality might become defined because of their name, in fact it can change them completely. (Example: Sire is a name that seems to demand respect; the boy had to grow up trying to desperately live up to the curse of a name his father gave him.) But remember names are also reflection of a character’s status and well being, if you’re a noble you have some sort of fancy name and title, if you’re a peasant, you’re lucky to have a last name at all.
(If your character only goes by a nickname or their allias, add their real name in their profile, There is no point in adding mystery to a character’s name, it’s just silly)
Assassin Name: This is where you can choose a name based on their fighting style, personality, reputation, past incidents ext. ext. You can have some creative fun this one.
Age: Age is often overlooked but it is an IMPORTANT FACTOR TO CHARACTER CREATION. In all likely hood, a 16 year old will not be wise and knowledgeable about the world, nor would he make a good assassin. They are hormonal, rash, and emotional, much more so than say a middle aged or elderly character. Their current age defines their personality at the moment.
This is a good tip from Dragonheart’s guide to Roleplaying: A CHARACTER SHOULD ACT THEIR AGE! NOT YOURS!
Gender: This is important because of the time period this RP takes place, females and males are treated very different and that should be taken into consideration.
Country Of Origin: This will determined little quirks about your character but not their whole personality. (Example: Feels a strong loyalty to country, speaks with a accent) But this will determine how a character appears, a Japanese person is not going to have fair pale skin, and someone from france will more than likely not have naturally tanned and dark skin. (I think this part is pretty self explanatory)
Appearance: (Hair, Eyes, General Looks) This actually doesn’t mean that much, it is more based of a first impression kind of thing and gauges how a character would react to the others. Tall guys intimidate short guys not so frightening. Also make sure their height and weight match up. If you are 5’6” you should not weigh 110, that is really not healthy, and you probably wouldn’t be a very good, healthy warrior or athlete. A 16 or 17 year old teenage male probably won’t have a lot of body mass, even if he works out like a beast (and chances are he won’t) Also think about how their stature relates to their abilities, someone small and wry is probably better at sneaking around then someone 6’4” and such. Just please try to be realistic about this.
Clothing: All I can ask is keep it appropriate to time period and location.
Abilities: DON’T GOD MOD! You should not be good at anything! Your characters main ability should fit their physical abilities and their personality. Rarely do are children masters of anything unless you say outright that they have been trained about it since birth, very intensely also.
Weapon of Choice: The same as abilities, a scrawny little guy is not going to be a wielding a great sword, and someone who is young probably won’t either due to lack of training in the area.
Personality: I’m not gonna give much on this, but try to create something original, and try not to copy other characters.
Family:
History: How many people’s families are brutally massacred, honestly? Be creative, maybe he was abandoned, or maybe he actually had a good life but felt something was missing. Maybe his family was a member of affluent society where they robbed people by making them invest in false things. Your history should somehow lead to the wanting/need to become an assassin, not just because you stumbled upon it.
Extra: You can put whatever here...
